A 14 year gal and ruthless world

It was sep 2, 2012, Sunday it was, lying on bed i switched on my phone's light to check the time. It had been 10 a.m. , you don't expect anyone to wake up before 10 specially on Sunday when you are a working guy and know already that from tomorrow, for the next 5 days, you are gonna run for your lives since 7 a.m. in the morning.
Thanks to Shubham, my flatmate, who prepared tea for us, rarely we get tea on time when you have to do things yourself. So it was around 10:30 a.m. when i sat down for reading newspaper. Starting it with a typical style -reading first page then last  and proceeding backwards till the editorial section. But today there was something which stopped me on the last page itself. There was a headline: "Move to deny school seat to rape victim foiled in U.P.".
I read the detail and was shocked to hell and wondered is it real ? Isn't it a prank ? Alas! i can't expect a prank from THE HINDU, had to believe it. A 14 year gal was gang-raped by four guys this april and now she was being denied of getting admission in school. Although, she got admission in the school after the intervention of Sub Divisional Magistrate(SDM).
I wasn't much relieved to know that finally she got admission, instead many strange questions hovered around my mind. It made put down the newspaper and think about the incident more deeply. Let me put down things in a strategic manner for you.

Well, lets start with talking about this "RAPE" thing. It has been so frequent in our society that hardly it amazes anyone now while reading or watching about it. We have adjusted, got habitual of such things going around. Let me say, you started a small business someday long ago, put everything possible in it, made it a business empire from a building, a brand from a name and your most valuable possession. Someday some bullies come on your way, kick your ass down, punch your face and somehow get your signature on some judicial papers. I am not getting into its details but lets say somebody has got your empire in his name. How do you feel now?
bad ?
even worse than that ?
broken ?
can't explain in words ?
An incomparable pain, embarrassment, agony is felt inside that raped gal everyday, every moment. She has been told since when she has got in her senses to preserve her beauty, her izzat. It is the most precious thing she has. You started your business when you were mature enough, you can still try your luck but what about her ?
She is getting haunted by same nightmare whenever she observes some lusty eyes scanning her body, have a cheap comment or may be watching a scene in a movie. If, fortunately, someone gets ready to marry her, you don't know the way he is going to treat her or what is she going to deal with throughout her sex life. They raped her because they can't control their filthy desires, their lust for some minutes or may be for some hours. But this small time is going to cost that gal her whole life.
An immature mind, hardly she knows what society is all about and some people gave her image she can't get rid of, a mental state she can't escape out, a lack of confidence which she can never gain and an image of beast in every man. She must be very exceptional to forget all these things and move on.

Some of you must be thinking by now that those 4 were filthy bastards, what can we do, we can't keep check on every other guy- "hote hain do-char har jagah".
So, lets move on to the next part- 14 year gal was gang-raped, completely shattered, now denied a seat in school. And to the utmost surprise this was done by the school Headmaster under the pressure of members of gram-panchayat and local Shiksha samiti. Kids studying in 7th class were tutored to state that - "they will discontinue their studies if the gal gets seat in the school" with a view that the students will get "polluted" if she gets admission. This was all going in a school where a fourth class employee, one of the accused rapist, was allowed to join his duty after getting released from jail against the rule according to which he must have been suspended within 48 hours.
So, now i think, things have moved from some filthy bastards to our great society and if am not wrong, society do comprises of me and you.
SDM intervened - headmaster and fourth class employee got suspended, gal got admission.

Happy ending ? Fair enough ? I don't think so....
In between these incidents, what about the gal ?
Will any SDM be there when she will be teased and commented upon because of that incident ?
Will any SDM be there to help her getting married in such a society where students were getting polluted just form her admission ?
Will any SDM be there to get her confidence back out of that embarrassing act she has no part in intentionally ?

In such a society, when we talk about equality and expect women to come forward, who are we fooling ?
She is afraid, god knows, when & where she could be attacked upon. Many do suicide after such acts and some also make their goal of life to attain justice. Countless cases can be enlisted if desired to be. Do we really want our society, our world to be like this ?
If not, what are we doing ? Yeah... many social workers are trying to make things better but what are you doing ? Now, some may also say, you are over-reacting, you tell a solution -we will follow you. If it had been so simple this problem has been uprooted long ago. Our society has been spoiled by some lusty people but it will take a much more number to improve things, to clean the air filled up of lust around us. This scenario can't be changed until we change ourselves, until we stop watching a show just because a pornstar is in it, until a lawyer stops to defend a rapist, until we stop voting for a rapist politician, until, i don't know, many more ways are used...
Maybe prostitution should be legalized so at least these kids can feel safe. I am not debating on this, its just a thought. Overall this is a cancer spreading in our society not inside a person. If it is to be eradicated, a collective effort is needed.
Just remember, we are from a country with highest of the values and culture, don't leave them behind in this world of technology.

  1. "students will get polluted if she studies"... This is really an absurd thinking... If this thinking change then really our India will be a better place... I will urge you to "include" this thought of changing the "thinking" in your next blog if you write regarding society... Last but the not the least "Nice work"!!!

  2. Well done Vishwas for taking an initiative to write this blog..Nice job!!

Its totally pathetic that-Kids studying in 7th class were tutored to state that - "they will DISCONTINUE their studies if the gal gets seat in the school "with a view that the students will get "polluted" if she gets admission. And more pathetic is that we are living in the same society where people talk about equality and allows women to come forward. How can a we expect both the things can go in a same line?? Shame on so called-"SOCIETY" created only by us.. What was most crucial fact in this incident that the girl got admission in the school after the intervention of Sub Divisional Magistrate(SDM).Its totally ridiculous that only by giving her an admission in the school, doesn't mean that she has been provided up with proper justice...Will SDM help her in bringing back her "izzat"?? or help her in forgetting the ruthless incident??or help her in providing a secure future again in the same Society?? the answer is "NO".. The truth is that these incidents will never stop in our so called "SOCIETY".. TRULY POINTED BY MY FRND VISHWAS THAT- "this scenario can't be changed until we change ourselves, until we stop watching a show just because a pornstar is in it, until a lawyer stops to defend a rapist, until we stop voting for a rapist politician, until, i don't know, many more ways are used..." I would support "PROSTITUTION should be LEGALIZED" so that kids like the "above 14-yr gal" can make up their mind that they are safe in the society and they can live like an independent bird and enjoy their Bachpan.
But the question still arouses in my mind that by arresting those 4 rapist, will these type of incidents STOP & will the thinking of the society CHANGE??????- A BIG QUESTION FOR ALL OF US!!!

    1. things have been spoiled gradually and it will take time to improve the situation... we can enact a law for the rapist but can't kill that feeling to rape someone.. He has got it somewhere in between the society where being virgin after 18 is an embarrassment.. where people look at a gal to just see her figure n decide she is "maal" or not... So i may say he is not sinful alone... our society should be blamed too.. we have left our values somewhere behind in following the western culture... we will discuss more hopefully in the next section about the solution thing if people are interested...
      thanx 4 reading n ur feedback :)

  3. It would be grossly unfair to blame the Western culture solely for the rapid degradation that has beset the Indian society. Just like every other culture, the West has its pros and cons. However, it is the sole discredit of the Indian society that it has managed to imbibe most of the negative aspects, instead of the positive ones. And just like every other social evil, there is no short-cut, no lock-and-drop method to root this out totally. It will have to be eradicated slowly, painfully and not without extreme effort and dedication. And lastly, until and unless the outdated and obsolete penal code is not modified to provide swift retribution against these dastardly acts, not much can be done about preventing further incidents. At least, it should be the moral responsibility of the common people, like me and you, to ostracise such miscreants from the society permanently.

    1. If somehow I made sense that situation are completely because of the Western culture then m sorry, its not the culture which has caused such things in our society. We are responsible for whatever is happening with us, we made being virgin an embarrassment in colleges, we made using gals for ur desires a talent, we praise people who have more than 1 girlfriends at a time.... there is nothing to blame their culture. We are responsible if we are blind enough to be incapable of understanding pros and cons of things. We haven't learnt yet punctuality from them then why this ? And one who rapes develops his thinking, his mentality, his thoughts in the society getting inspired among us, and this is our society not theirs. There are lot of things in west to be inspired of, m just saying that get inspired learn things but not on cost of our values coz i personally think that to cure this cancer first thing to do is to clean ourselves and the first step is to preserve and nurture our morals.
Thanx for ur comment buddy....it will be nice to discuss the solution of the situation in the next post :)

    1. just saw the video... u know its really very hard to even listen what some people are doing everyday... I can't express feelings to the extent someone who has felt that pain can do.
Steps must be taken to stop these pathetic acts going around...it needs much more our effect than the govt... I am ready take steps physically and as far as writing is concerned m new at field and lets see if i can convince anyone coz till its not a collective effort situation is not going to change..
Thanks for sharing the video and telling me the depth of the matter and at last thanks for visiting the blog...

  5. hi Vishwas...indeed its a great effort and thought which you have put into this blog...exactly the same happens whichever u said about taking these mishappenings as routined and trivial things..because it is really so.Almost everyday we read news of assault and molestation,a number of them even in only a single day's newspaper.
And whatever we are talking about the root cause, they have there roots long deep in the society, general thinking of me,you and people around us,media highlighting the females as mere objects of desire and the people who instead of being morally correct and upright, follow the trend and want to put the as rather 'cool'...its a very touchy issue, specially to every girl who want to feel free and grow in our society.
And talking about the solution,I would admit that I have some ideas to them, people would refer as 'barbaric'...but I do believe that if a person is a thief or does some crime as a consequence of his situation, like theft, bribery and all,he can still repent or improve...but if a person is characterless and possesses a mind so full of lust to put people into danger,he is truly worthy of a death sentence.I hate those news of trials and all that court-kachehri draama after such incidents and the culprits get free by just paying some trivial amount of money or using power!!! I mean...how disgusting it would used to be for the victim...to see the animal free after spoiling everything about her life...imagine...there should be a law for death sentence for such people...because once a person has got such thinking of all things,he can never improve...so its foolish worth taking the risk and spoiling other lives.Indeed it would look odd to people, but I am of the opinion that discipline sometimes needs to be externally imposed if situation is rather gone out of hands...and it seems it is...
And talking about the thinking and mindsets of people...yes the actual change would come only when people would realize the concepts of morals...and their outlook towards girls...at one scene they are being recognised as symbol of devi and on the other hand such deed with devi!!!how ironical and double-standard!
And yes, apart from this situation whichever you brought to notice here, this news...in everyday life, females do endure many things they start regarding as trivial, because they happen each and everyday and its seems fitting to fairer community to keep mum instead of raising their voices and avoid unnecessary and unfruitful attention, but the thing which can bring change is to stand up and raise your voice...to change the view of fairer sex in the minds of filthy from meek and mum to a person who is a capable of not letting go if you made a wrong move...

    1. True that! Its not her who has done wrong But God help our society, where even when the husband dies, wife is made to bear all cusses, physical violence or even made to leave home and what not, which is in no doubt much less than the earlier Sati System as all of us know! They, even in 2012, the so called 21st century, still consider Women as weeker sex and consider her a tool to meet their pleasures. Its a Social Stigma, which I don't think can be removed without educating the masses! They need to be taught to consider her equal and respect her Rights.

And esp. for that 'Polluted' thing, I don't mind thinking, that they really have those kinds of perceptions coz these kind of people are either misinformed or not at all informed. Just as an example, We travel by roads daily, and we see a lot of people who don't either follow rules etc, not all of them do it intentionally, what I think is that maybe many of them are not properly informed even abt the basic rules. Correct me if I am wrong but what I think is education can improve the situation a lot.

As a solution, if I may offer, We can legalize Prostitution as Vishwas said but that too under proper regulation and supervision and support by State. And We should start educating, from the school level, about this heinous crime and its horrendous consequences on Victim and Convict (as even his family suffers at some point).

P.S. - 'They' mostly refers to the uneducated/misinformed crowd, be it men or women.

    2. I agree that these things are breeding mostly because of illiteracy but when a Dentist force his wife to drink his pee i become doubtful, when NRIs marry for dowry and leave their wives in India, i become doubtful, when I am told that most of the female foeticides have been taking place in high society families, i once again get doubtful...

    3. Yeah, I totally agree with your point. That is why, I guess I mentioned it somewhere that, Education need not be just Theory subjects, for eg. Physics, Maths etc. but with special emphasis on Moral Education too. I am sure, that is where we lack the most. I don't think if even teachers take these subjects seriously.
And specifically for the Foeticides issue, I read from an authentic source, the root cause was the upper society. For when the abortions came into public domain, It was actually very costly, and only well-off people could afford it. Very late in due course were abortions made public to masses at low prices. All I could conclude from this info was that these people though moneyed and educated were not socially and morally aware.
